unning Victorian mourning bodice jacket. Jacquard Ribbon trim down the front, and solid black trim at cuffs and hem and round the neckline. Hooks and eyes all down the front, but just three at the top. Bottom potion has none and it appears as though there never were any. Slight leg o mutton sleeve, tapering to a cuff. Lined in gold. I believe the jacket is a textured silk, and the lining cotton. No label. Later 1800s. Wonderful rare larger size too!
Great to excellent vintage condition, especially given its age. The lining is very sound with just some smudges and age spots and some loose threads in the armhole seams. Easy fixes. Also, one of the cuffs is coming away from the rest of the sleeve at the seam, also an easy fix. There are a few holes and worn areas in the main body of the jacket but only one of these give
s me any real pause. It's a horizontal area where the threads are pulling apart about an inch long and it's on the back of the shoulders. I would stabilize it with some web or black patching before I wore this, if you indeed wish to wear this.. And might as well do the others to while you're at it. Most of any repairs to this would be quite simple and easy to do. I make no secret about my lack of any real seamstress skills so while I feel these are simple enough for my moderate skills, I would be utterly terrified of doing something to damage this so I will leave it to the end buyer. Also wonderful for a collection or display.
Measurements when lying flat.
Shoulder to shoulder: 15"
Armpit to armpit across bust: 39"
Waist: approx. 31"--its open at the front and has a higher back and lower front so measurement can't be exact.
Shoulder to waist at side: 14"
Please note: These are vintage, preworn and/or preloved items. I do my utmost best to list any issues, but signs of wear should be expected, and there are occasionally small things I won't deem worthy of note. Please feel free to send me a missive with any questions. I'm truly happy to help in any way possible and I'm always up for a chat. Any accessories shown, including crinolines, are for display only, not included unless otherwise stated.
